EA Sports confirmed FIFA 21 is not going to feature online cross-play, even across similar next-gen platforms.
The news was posted by The FIFA Direct Communication Twitter account, in light of an inquiry from the FUT Weekly Podcast about whether the individuals who own the game on PS4 could play FIFA 21 online with companions on PS5. This implies that current-gen FIFA 21 players won’t have the option to play with their friends who buy the game on next-gen consoles, despite the fact that the Dual Entitlement – current-gen players will have the option to upgrade to its the next-gen version of FIFA 21 free.
“You won’t be able to play across console generation or cross-play in FIFA 21,” the tweet reads. “However, you will be able to carry over your FUT progression from PS4 to PS5 and Xbox 1 to Xbox Series X.”
The next-gen version of the game will not support cross-play, so Xbox Series X players might have the option to play with different players on a similar console. EA also announced some changes to the upcoming FIFA 21.
