Xbox Live Gold users were horrified to learn about the free games available in August as a component of Games Plus Gold.
Subscribers will receive four free games in August, two of which will be Xbox One games and two of which will be Xbox 360 games. The roster isn’t very exciting, but when compared to prior months’ lineups — and to what PlayStation Plus has to offer in August — it’s really rather good. It’s a familiar set of titles if you’re an Xbox Game Pass user, though. Darksiders III and Yooka-Laylee are the two most popular Xbox One games this month.
Neither game is really new, but both are welcome additions. Both of these titles, however, had previously been accessible through Xbox Game Pass, and in the vast majority of instances, not ages ago. While Xbox Live Gold members are trapped with Xbox Game Pass remnants, the latter recently received new titles, including two classic Xbox games from 2002 and 2003. There will, of course, be some overlap between the two subscription services. We’re actually shocked it took this long, or at least for anyone to notice. To put it another way, there’s some overlap between the two services, and subscribers to both may have regularly played such “new free games.” That so, Microsoft’s handling of the two subscription services is well exemplified by today’s revelation.
Titles With Gold is increasingly neglected, and Xbox Game Pass users have already played games that were released months ago.
