Individually transferring to another server isn’t always an adequate – or affordable – solution for players. And being stuck on a low population server in any MMO can be a serious problem. But luckily World of Warcraft fans won’t have to worry about this matter much longer. Plans to merge its less-populated World of Warcraft servers with more populated ones has been confirmed by Blizzard.
The team mentioned in a post on the official forum that that the decision to connect the low-population realms to other existing realms” will give players more opportunities without having to shell out for server transfers. The post further confirmed that they will follow a comprehensive study of realm populations for every realm in the world. The developer will connect the low-population realms to other existing realms over the next two-three months. Which may coincide with or just precede the upcoming Shadowlands expansion pack. They will do so until they will connect every low-population realm in every region to a substantially larger population of players.
However Blizzard hasn’t offered a list of which realms have the lowest population. That means players will have to wait and see if they’ll be merged with another realm. But the company has promised to alert players prior to commencing with the merge. World of Warcraft’s popularity I huge and its long-lasting influence on the gaming community shows. Though the population of certain servers may have dwindled over the years. Those who are just barely getting started and fans who have been playing for over a decade came together in a tribute to the late World of Warcraft streamer Reckful recently. Reckful was a big part in getting many players to pick up the game.
Blizzard recently admitted it faces an uphill challenge in fending off cheaters and banned 74,000 World of Warcraft Classic botters. Some player is not happy and some were outspoken in their fondness for their low population WoW servers. The concern is reasonable while the complaints are highly unlikely to dissuade Blizzard. World of Warcraft is available now on PC.
