Monolith’s Wonder Woman video game seems to be in jeopardy.
It’s been eight years since Monolith Productions published their last game, Middle-earth: Shadow of War. They teased the Wonder Woman game at the year’s end of 2021, but so far, they’ve failed to provide any concrete evidence of progress on their project.
Ever since the game was announced, Wonder Woman has been among the most anticipated playable video game female protagonists. The game was meant to include the Nemesis system from the Shadow of Mordor games. Even after more than three years, the game is reportedly stuck in development limbo with no definite release date in sight.
The future of the Wonder Woman game is uncertain due to problems stemming from its development and the difficulties that have arisen since Monolith’s leadership changed. Changes in corporate leadership and technical difficulties with the game have left the studio with little to show after three years.
The company started developing a new series that dabbled with nonlinear narrative when the sequel came out. In 2021, when development on the Wonder Woman video game started, it was canceled as expected.
According to a recent article by Bloomberg, Monolith is now experiencing some problems with the Wonder Woman game. Reportedly one of WB Games’ “biggest bets,” the game has reportedly cost the business $100 million so far, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The fact that it is still “years away” from completion adds fuel to the fire of skepticism about its eventual release. The article states that after the release of Middle Earth: Shadow of War in 2017, Monolith Productions has hardly released anything.
