Dragon’s Dogma II’s release inches closer and closer, we now learn why it took a decade to make a sequel.
The first Dragon’s Dogma became a cult classic that developed a fan base that was deeply loyal to the game, but despite this, it nearly took an entire decade for us to get some new news on the series from Capcom. The series was radio silent, and when Dragon’s Dogma II was announced, fans went feral. However, many fans have begun to ask – What was the reason for the silence? Now we might finally know.
According to Dragon’s Dogma II director, Hideaki Itsuno, who has also worked on the Devil May Cry series he had intended on making the next Dragon’s Dogma game right after the first. We first learned of the sequel’s development issues in an interview that was featured in issue 35 of Play Magazine. In this interview, Itsuno says that both him and his team would hold day-long sessions, discussing the Possible things that they would like to implement in the next game. The director jokingly said that many of their more wild ideas come to them during the late hours of work.
Hideaki Itsuno then said that he “really wanted to make a sequel right after [Dragon’s Dogma] came out” and he was kind enough to apologize to all the fans who had been waiting for a sequel. Despite the long wait, Itsuno is confident that he and his team have successfully managed to fit all their crazy ideas into Dragon’s Dogma II. One of their biggest focuses was drastically upgrading various systems from the first game that he and his team felt weren’t up to scratch.
Dragon’s Dogma II is certainly becoming one of our most anticipated games of 2024, especially as we now know that we can expect a lot of fun and new things that weren’t possible to be added to the first game.
