Considering the Chinese release was postponed from July to December, Where Winds Meet’s West release might be pushed further by the devs.
Where Winds Meet is an upcoming action-adventure game announced two years ago. The game’s first trailer immediately captivated many with its martial arts techniques and gameplay features, such as the ability to run on water. While Everstone Games has announced that the game will be available for PC on December 27, unfortunately, there has been no announcement on when the Western release will be made, and it seems that this first release will only be available in China.
A beta version of Where Winds Meet had both single-player and multiplayer modes earlier this year, and those who participated spoke very highly about the game. In the multiplayer mode, you and other players may form alliances for fights, raids, or player-versus-player battles. Based on their experiences during the beta and at game events, gamers were pleased with the game’s magnitude and diversity of action, although they did note that it required more polishing.
Where Winds Meet seems to provide players the freedom to mix and match combat aspects and martial arts techniques, and the game does offer a wide variety of styles to learn. A wall can run, swim, climb, and even use tai-chi techniques to deflect opponent strikes.
From what we can tell from the gameplay footage, Where Winds Meet seems to be a mix of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and a Sekiro-type gameplay mechanism. However, Everstone has said that they want players to establish their unique mechanism. I think the open-world design will appeal to a wide audience, and the fact that players will have the option to construct their own villages, homes, and other structures—which is a feature I really enjoy—will further add to the appeal.
The latest trailer shows great improvement in the game’s visuals and gameplay. It has stunning images of the player gliding over the water, further emphasizing the Wuxia influence we mentioned before. Many various themes are at work here, from gigantic animals to one-on-one encounters with swordsmen. The trailer also provides indications about boss fights that we may experience in the complete game, which really seem amazing.
While it’s disheartening that Where Winds Meet doesn’t have a Western release date yet, considering that the Chinese release was postponed from July to December, putting them six months behind the plan, maybe next summer we will see a global release. At least for the time being, it is something fans can look forward to.
