Lil’ Guardsman brings out a comedic official trailer while announcing that the demo is out now.
On the 7th of June 2023, Hilltop Studios and Versus Evil announce the release of Lil’ Guardsman’s demo on Steam. Alongside the demo is a brand-new Lil’ Guardsman trailer that was released during the Guerrilla Collective showcase. The trailer shows off the gameplay and all-around chaos you can expect within Lil’ Guardsman when the game releases later this year.
Lil’ Guardsman tells the story of Lil’ who unfortunately has to take over doing her dad’s job as the castle Guard. Lil will meet a colorful cast of characters throughout her tenure as a castle guard. Each of these characters comes to the Sprawl with a purpose; whether they are nefarious or not depends on the character. Help Lil by making the big decisions, although each one has consequences.
Lil’ Guardsman is a narrative-driven deduction game, much like Papers, Please. The demo will allow you to get a taste for all the tools of the trade much like the truth spray, a spray bottle of questionable potion work that does what it says it does and compels those passing through the castle gate to tell the truth. Another tool would be a classic metal detector, which allows Lil’ to locate and confiscate metal items. Those aren’t the only tools you’ll have available in Lil’ Guardsman as you will have the option to rewind time to be able to redo any of your previous choices but be careful you don’t want to break space and time in the process.
You will also get to meet a few of the quirky cast of characters including Lil herself, from helping an angry Cyclop mom to stopping smugglers in their tracks. You will get only three chances per person that allow you to do something, such as use a tool, before you have to decide between entry or denial.
While there is no release date set yet for Lil’ Guardsman, Hilltop Studios and Versus Evil say that the game will release later this year on PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox Series.
