People who use Steam can find themselves taking notes during the gameplay using its in-game overlay.
Steam has been in our lives for a very long time. While majorly dominating the video game streaming market, they have also started diving deep into hardware with their controllers, VR headsets and even handheld consoles. As the technology advances further, Valve Corporation is also making things easier for Steam users by constantly updating their software and bringing durable hardware to the interested.
Steam’s development team has been busy with Steam Deck, their latest hardware, for a very long time; however, it seems like they haven’t forgotten about their PC users at all. A recent update for the PC client got released today, allowing PC users to be more free with both Steam client and in-game overlay.
The current update for the PC was in beta for a while, and with people’s feedback, Valve finally gave the green light to release it to the public. At first sight, it might look like a basic UI update, but the core lies in the overlay, which is usually when people do not want to use ALT+TAB to look for something.
The in-game overlay is now more optimized, keeping both game and the in-game client to be stable while allowing players to take notes or have multimedia running in the background. This means people who tend to listen to music in their favorite online game can tie their music archive to Steam’s in-game overlay multimedia player, or if you are looking for an extraordinary experience, you can watch a movie while playing a game too.
One of the more advanced features of the PC update is being able to take notes in overlay. These notes do not disappear if you choose so, and you can adjust their opacity while playing a game, so it becomes easy to follow the steps you have written in order to, say, your daily quota for an MMO or tasks you want to achieve in an RPG game.
Along with overlay, UI elements such as news, tabs, and notifications also got updated in this new patch. Users can now choose to see which sort of notification they want to see, as well as a news tab taking people to the destined news instead of a general hub.
Steam’s PC update is currently live. All you have to do is restart your client by exiting and restarting, and it will automatically download the update. So far, everyone is happy with the change of in-game overlay and ease of use on new additions to Steam. Let’s see where Valve can take their creativity in the next planned update for the PC platform.
