Warner Bros. Montreal’s upcoming games have been a mystery so far.
Although we still don’t have much information about Warner Bros. Montreal’s upcoming game, we do know a few pieces of the puzzle. Gotham Knights has been on the air for nearly two years, and a senior producer has just been cast. The website initially stated that this individual would be joining the team developing AAA games based on the DC Comics universe.
Looking at the job posting now, though, we can see that it was taken down. The fact remains, though, that this individual will be in charge of a single project’s development from inception to completion, including all themes and stages. They appear to have further projects in the works since they are now working on a large new DC project.
If they are currently seeking a senior producer to assist with both the concept and production, it appears that this one is for a title that is still in the works. We’ve been posting about their new single-player game built on Unreal Engine 5 for a while since we found out that Warner Bros. Montreal was working on a second project, perhaps a year before Gotham Knights’ release.
Gotham Knights was not the game we all expected, while some still liked it despite its mediocre gameplay and somewhat clumsy combat. While I only played Gotham Knights for Batgirl only, in my opinion, they would benefit greatly from switching to Unreal Engine 5, where you could still do a lot of interesting stuff in that game, like hunt down several villains and get new outfits.
After doing some additional research, it appears that all of the Gotham Knights directors are no longer affiliated with Warner Bros. Montreal. However, we’re still intrigued to see where this subject goes from here. The former creative director is now serving in the same capacity on an undisclosed Ubisoft Montreal project.
The nature of that intrigues me. Gotham’s game director has since taken a position as creative director at People Can Fly, where the very same developers are responsible for Outriders. What little remains of the original leadership team is further diminished by the departure of numerous other Directors.
