The mobile spin-off game in the LittleBigPlanet franchise, Ultimate Sackboy, now has a release date.
Ultimate Sackboy finally has a release date. The new mobile game, which is a spin-off of the PlayStation game series, LittleBigPlanet, is the latest entry in the series. There hasn’t been a new mainline entry into the franchise in over eight years. However, that doesn’t mean the series hasn’t had new entries. Ultimate Sackboy is just the latest of multiple spin-offs that have been keeping the series alive.
LittleBigPlanet was first released in 2008 for the PlayStation 3 and was, arguably , one of its best first-party releases on that platform. Since then, the series has had multiple entries, most of which were met with praise. Despite its success the series hasn’t had a new entry in sometime, the last mainline game was LittleBigPlanet 3 came out in 2014. This is mainly due to Sony putting more focus on the development of Dreams, which, much like LittleBigPlanet, puts an emphasis on creativity and game development.
Though fans have long been asking for another mainline entry, the series is far from dormant. The developer and publisher Exient have announced in a blog post that the game will be releasing on 21 February and that players can now pre-register for Ultimate Sackboy. The game will be similar to the previous spin-off title Run Sackboy! Run! and will feature a similar style of gameplay and character customization. Ultimate Sackboy also seems to be a way for Sony to expand the PlayStation mobile games division after acquiring Savage Game Studios.
Though this isn’t a new mainline entry for LittleBigPlanet, at least fans of the series can rest assured that the series lives on. The same cannot be said about other PlayStation titles such as Bloodborne which despite being a financial success has yet to receive a sequel or spin-off. Ultimate Sackboy is available for pre-register and will be released for mobile on 21 February 2023.
