Warner Bros. Games is shutting down the Wonder Woman game along with the studio.
Warner Bros. Games is shutting down a “Wonder Woman” game that was in development for three years. The open-world titles were in production at Monolith Productions, which is among three studios closing as part of the layoff round, Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego.
In July 2024, WB Games acquired Player First Games, the maker of the free-to-play platform fighter game MultiVersus, which, as previously announced, is being shut down.
Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier reports that Warner Bros. Games, Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB San Diego are closing down the Wonder Woman game. Schreier’s initial report does not provide further details about why the changes were occurring, though the game has reportedly been underperforming for a long time.
One of the biggest reasons Warner Bros. has shut down its game studios is because two recent big-name games have performed well below expectations. Suicide Squad bombed as a live-service game in 2024, and Multiversus is slowing down after WB Games shut it down after beta and reopened it.
In a statement to Kotaku, Warner Bros. Games clarified that it was structuring its game studios around “key franchises”, which include Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, DC, and Game of Thrones.

The statement also provided additional details about why Wonder Woman was canceled. “Our ambition was to offer players and fans the best possible experience for the legendary character, and unfortunately, that is no longer feasible within our strategic priorities”, the statement added. “This is another tough decision, as we recognize Monolith’s strong history of crafting epic fan experiences through amazing games”.
Monolith Productions is best known for the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor franchise and its proprietary nemesis system. Wonder Woman’s game was to employ that system but stalled, leading to delays in production and creative overhauls. In the meantime, Player First Games is responsible for Multiversus, which was closed down last year. WB San Diego focused on mobile games, another segment where WB Games has lagged considerably.
Hopefully, Warner Bros. Games will provide more official updates on the shutdowns within the next few days so that we can better understand what led to this action.
