In a long-awaited update on Project Rene, aka Sims 5, we learn that the next entry in the life simulation game series will include a cross-play feature.
Electronic Arts, the publisher of The Sims games, has been relatively quiet about the next entry into the series, The Sims 5, codenamed “Project Rene.” However, we have learned that cross-platform play has been added. Currently, only a few select players have access to an early play test build of the game, which developers are using to improve the game.
“Project Rene” was originally shown off on 5 October 2022 during the Behind the Sims Summit. The Sims 5 is said to feature better customization and a collaborative mode. This new mode is said to allow gamers to play with their friends in their own play spaces. While EA has tried its hardest to keep things under wraps, this hasn’t stopped some players from leaking content.
While there is no release date for The Sims 5 yet, the developers did reveal in a recent “Behind the Sims” video that development for the game is still ongoing. Grant Rodek, the director of the project, has said that, besides refining furniture customization, a cross-play feature is in the works. This would allow players to enjoy the game and access their Sims’ home from PC, console, and mobile. This is an attempt to remove as many barriers as possible from stopping players who want to enjoy The Sims.
Along with cross-platform play and a new collaborative mode, The Sims 5 will also feature a multiplayer mode. While players are concerned that the game will feel more MMO-like, the developers have said that will not be the case.
Despite the news of playtests and a new cross-play feature, not much else is known about “Project Rene” or, rather, The Sims 5. Fans of The Sims will have to stay tuned for any new updates on the next entry into the life simulation game.
