The Witcher was the first game in the titular series and it finally getting a remake in UE5.
CD Projekt Red have been very clear cut with their future. Announcing the multiple titles from both Cyberpunk and The Witcher that are in development for the future. However, CD Projekt still have more information. The very first Witcher game, the title that began the award winning series released back in 2007. In that time, the franchise has grown exponentially, becoming one of the most popular fantasy series in the world regardless of whatever piece of media it finds itself in, be it: the Netflix series, the video games and of course the books.
Fans have been begging for a potential remake for the rather dated ‘The Witcher’ and CD Projekt Red have obliged. It turns out that development team Fool’s Theory is in fact remaking the first Witcher game in UE5. This was announced on The Witcher’s official twitter:
Fool’s Theory as a studio supposedly has it’s roots in CD Projekt, with many developers actually coming from that studio. Fool’s Theory has provided support for multiple famous titles including: Outriders, Gord, Divinity Original Sin II and Baldur’s Gate III. In addition to this, they have also made their very own title co-developed alongside IMGN.Pro called Seven: The Days Long Gone.
All in all, this is a studio that is clearly well suited to RPG’s, and thus The Witcher remake would definitely be their forte. Now as stated in the tweet above, it is clear that both CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory “Want to get this right” and since that, we are still unsure about what stage of development the game is in and as such have no timeline on a potential release.
