Sony is now working on a remake of the top game of 2020, The Last of Us. According to the Bloomberg report, the Visual Arts Service Group has been working on the Project since 2018. The project was eventually handed over to Naughty Dog.
Michael Mumbauer’s group made an Uncharted remake, but Sony canned the idea because it thought it would be too expensive. So, the team started to work on The Last of Us Remake. The Last of Us Part 2 was in development, so Sony didn’t provide enough resources to the team.
As we all remember, The Last of Us was delayed. Visual Arts Service Group started working with Naughty Dog on the sequel. As the game was finished, the PS5 remake was handed over to Naughty Dog.
Many staff members, including Mumbauer and game director David Hall, left Visual Arts Service Group at the end of 2020. So, the project is still in development at Naughty Dog with Visual Arts Support Group’s support.
The report also showed that Days Gone studio Sony Bend pitched a sequel to the game. But Sony wasn’t keen on the idea. The team started to work with Uncharted, but later, it was handed over to Naughty Dog. According to the report, Sony Bend is now working on its game.
