No Starfield? No Final Fantasy XVI? 2023 is filled with so many great games, but only six have been nominated for Game of the Year in this year’s The Game Awards.
It has to be said, but 2023 is among the best years in gaming history. When you actually look at the list of video games that were released this year, you’d find it very difficult to choose which game truly deserves the award.
With the Game Awards arriving on December 7, 2023, we expected the nominations to come through right about now, and they did. So many great games came out this year, but unfortunately, only six could be cut. Plus, there are a few surprising snubs.
The confirmed Game of the Year 2023 nominees:
Wait a minute, where are the likes of Hogwarts Legacy? or Final Fantasy XVI? Star Wars Jedi Survivor? But more importantly, where’s Starfield? But that’s not the most shocking part. Starfield only got one nomination. And it’s for the best RPG. It’s almost a decade in the making, and all that noise was made about how great the game will be just to get one nomination, and it’s not even the one that many of us are hoping for.
Whereas Hogwarts Legacy didn’t get a single nomination in this year’s Game Awards. Which is absurd. This just tells you the level of video games that arrived this year. Perhaps the Game Awards should’ve increased the nominations spots. The six that were confirmed definitely deserved to be in, but so did many others.
Huge congratulations to the games that made it, and whichever game wins the award will definitely deserve it. We only have a few weeks to find out the winner, and we’ll keep you updated on the Game Awards. Plus, here at GamesCreed, we will provide our own annual gaming awards article next month, so be sure to tune in for it. But what do you think? Are the nominees justified, or would you swap any of them for another game?
