After two years, the lawsuit against CD Projekt RED for the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 has been settled.
The release of Cyberpunk 2077 has gone down as possibly one of the worst video game releases of recent history. The game had multiple game-breaking bugs, graphical issues, and, in general, was poorly optimized. The release was so disastrous that a lawsuit was filed against CD Projekt RED by a group of investors. Now, after almost two years, a judge has finally approved the lawsuit for a total of $1.85 million that the video game developer will have to pay.
Almost as soon as word started to spread about CD Projekt RED’s sci-fi title’s troubled launch back in December 2020, the company fell under investigation for illegally misrepresenting the final product for profit. This controversy, paired with the numerous complaints from customers, even led to Sony removing Cyberpunk 2077 from its digital storefronts.
However, nowadays Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be in a far better state after many patches and updates, but the damages from it’s launch have been done and CD Projekt RED is expected to pay the $1.85 million to the investors who filed the original claim, Rosen Law Firm. For those who have been following along with the Cyberpunk debacle, this may sound like old news. Wasn’t this dealt with back in April? The initial claim was denied approval by US District Judge Fernando M. Olguin, but a revised settlement was soon provided afterwards. This can all be read in a statement given by CD Projeckt Red.
While it’s taken a few years, it seems that the controversial case will finally be coming to a close. CD Projekt RED will most likely be glad to put this whole issue behind them as the company moves onto new projects. This isn’t to say that the damage caused by Cyberpunk 2077’s launch has been completely repaired as, despite the game’s new stable state and the popularity of its anime spin-off Edgerunners, many fans are wary of CD Projekt RED and their upcoming remakes and projects.
