It is not certain when trading is going to be enabled in Diablo IV, but Blizzard is currently taking a look for a fix.
We all know the struggle of developers trying to fix a certain bug or a problem right after a game-changing update. Although these mistakes might not appear in the developmental phase, some other factors can cause the said issues, one of them being the involvement of actual players and their curiosity to test out new mechanics. One of the recent cases appears to struck Diablo IV after Blizzard officially added the second season. Dubbed Season of Blood, it arrived a few days ago and added nifty stuff such as new quests, items, Steam support and even allowing Diablo IV to be Steam Deck Verified.
These changes might be a positive addition to Diablo IV, but players started abusing a bug that was left out of Blizzard QA testing. Apparently, the item duplication bug has returned and people found a way to abuse this glitch to spawn identical items without actually grinding for it. As usual, this move is considered illegal and cheating in Blizzard’s book- though it would be the same for every multiplayer game currently in the market. Therefore Blizzard had to take a measure until they had to get rid of the item duplication glitch.
Rich Batengui, the community manager of Blizzard, posted an announcement on the Diablo forums, letting everyone be aware of the bug. He later added that heavy “action” would be taken against people who try this exploit to profit from the trading. Ultimately, the bug’s relevancy and expected excessive usage led Blizzard to disable the player-to-player trading until they fixed the glitch of item duplication. It was quite the shocker when trading was disabled for the first time back in July for the exact same reason, so it does make people feel a bit unsure about Blizzard’s quality control overall.
Diablo IV made its way to Steam a few days ago and just like Blizzard’s other popular title, Overwatch 2, it is getting a lot of bad reviews. One might think it is a race between two sides, battle.net and Steam, but most of the reviews show how Blizzard is not being able to deliver the same quality they did back in the day. The Steam Deck Verification was a quite notable upside in the community’s view, but according to reviews on Steam, people cannot get it to work because of the problems of battle.net being linked to Steam. It surely does not surprise many, but we will have to see when Diablo IV will make an actual comeback, unfortunately, this is tied to Blizzard’s will to care about their fanbase.
