For unknown reasons, there are huge layoffs from big gaming firms, sadly, Team 17 is one of them.
One of the longest-running game firms from the British Isles is Team 17. With a huge catalog to their names, Team 17 was able to both create video games from scratch and help other developers with publishing them. Founded in 1990, the studio is responsible for widely-known titles such as Worms series, Apache, Overcooked, Lemmings ports, and many more classic and new titles. One of their latest games, Blashemphous 2 got a very good score too, keeping its relevancy to the top.
However, not everything is sunshine at Team 17. Today, the firm announced that they are preparing for heavy layoffs inside the team in the upcoming months. The information was delivered today via the other sources that communicated with the company about the matter. It is confirmed that one of the CEOs has already departed from the studio. The name in question is Michael Pattison, and currently, the CEO role has been given to the Commercial Operations Director.
There are no layoffs reported currently, but according to other workers at Team 17, they received a note this morning, stating that their position is currently at risk. The reason for no job cuts is due to a consultation taking part in November this year, after the critical decisions, we can expect to see a decrease in the capacity of Team 17. Most of the layoffs are expected to happen to Team 17’s own internal QA team, and the number is allegedly around 50 people.
Though the layoffs are expected to happen soon, other studios tied to Team 17, those being Astragon and Storytoys, are not going to be affected by this change. It is quite odd that most of the game firms are choosing the same time of year to cut ties with most of their employees. Last week, a huge layoff hit Sega UK after the cancellation of their upcoming title, Hyenas. At the same time, another UK firm under the roof of Epic Games, Mediatonic, was completely disintegrated by the decision of Epic Games.
