Fans of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, rejoice as Nintendo will be releasing new Spirits based on characters from other Nintendo IPs.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is just one of those games that seemingly will never run out of steam, even years after its release, the game is still getting content updates and we seem to be getting more content this January. While the update will be relatively small, it will feature new Spirits based on some of Nintendo’s iconic game franchises such as The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon, just to name a few.
The character brawler, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, was developed by none other than Bandai Namco and legendary video game designer and former YouTuber, Masahiro Sakurai. The game is considered one the best games in the series, which is evident in its regular fan tournaments and devoted player base. The game is a Nintendo Switch exclusive and has received high praise from both critics and fans for combining the best elements of past titles and building upon them to make a truly fun and legendary gaming experience.
One of the new mechanics that was added to the game was the inclusion of Spirits, which are both powerful power ups and unique collectables that improve a character’s stats and currently, there are over 1500 Spirits in game. Well, that’s what we thought anyway.
Thanks to a recent Twitter post that was made by the official Nintendo of America Twitter account, we now know that even more Spirits will be coming to the game. These Spirits will be based on characters from some of Nintendo’s most beloved IPs including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Splatoon 3. These new Spirits will be coming to the game on 11 January 2024.
Despite its age, it’s always nice to see new content being added to a game, no matter how small it is. Sadly, despite this, the future of the series is uncertain as Masahiro Sakurai said that as of 2021, there are currently no plans for a sequel. However, that was three years ago, so who knows what 2024 will have in store for us.
