Valve has postponed its Summer Game Showcase from June 9-14 to June 16-22.
The showcase’s contents remain as originally planned, including live developer and free game demo events all week long. While Valve did not address the present situation in the United States in its press release, the extension fits with a variety of other gaming activities and highlights disruptions from early June in reaction to George Floyd’s death.
Valve had lead developers and publishers of games interested in the showcase to expect that it would move ahead as expected before this afternoon’s announcement by Valve triggered uncertainty and worries regarding the timing of the game announced, according to sources.
We also learned from the sources that Publishers planned to add demos of games intended to be discovered via Future Games Showcase and PC Gaming Show. However, both were postponed earlier this week to June 13.
According to familiar reports, developers and publishers will have to opt to have a game prototype in the Steam showcase or get it announced during one of the upcoming showcases.
The first major gaming event postponed in the wake of Floyd’s death was PlayStation’s Future of Gaming PS5 event. Other games have also been delayed, such as Epic, which postponed Fortnite season 3, and Rockstar, which shut down GTA and Red Dead Online for two hours in Floyd’s memory.
