Bethesda’s newest title, Starfield, is now being review-bombed for being “mid”.
2023 is coming to a close and everyone is rounding up their year. In terms of gaming, there were both ups and downs in the quality of games we got. While some underdog and indie creators got their fair share of interest, there were some bummers in the bunch too. Not to say, that the craft that went into their games was bad, but nowadays, everyone is expecting the bit of soul that went into creating those said games. Now that most of the games are made with profit in mind, huge companies can hit the bottom layer very hard despite their years of reputation.
One of them is Blizzard, who made the decision to release the same game as a sequel, making everyone a bit confused. Even worse, they decided to reach a greater audience by releasing the said game on the rival platform. We are talking about Overwatch 2, of course. The game was heavily regarded as a disgrace to its player base, whether the cancelation of a promised game mode or the overpriced skins in the market. Unfortunately, Blizzard forgot the Steam reviews while porting Overwatch 2 to Steam, and ended up adding the worst-rated game on the platform ever recorded.
The same case happened recently when Bethesda, one of the strongest and most valuable gaming companies out there, released their new space-themed RPG game, Starfield. If you were to ask any Bethesda fan out there, they are patiently waiting for the Elder Scrolls VI, which happens to be in development still. Starfield, on the other hand, is a real and solid Bethesda game, but despite being the newest game of the game giant, people seem to despise the ambitious RPG.
When Starfield was released a few months ago, the initial response to the game from both reviews and players was “okay”, but not too exciting to sink your hours into. Now that the Starfield players have run out of content, as at some point the game starts giving you the same exact quests over and over, people want to showcase their terrible experience with Starfield. Among titles like Gollum, King Kong, and Overwatch 2, Starfield is slowly climbing the charts of “Worst of 2023” just a few days before the year’s end.
Bethesda is more likely not to work on fixing Starfield as they have already showcased what they had to offer. Most of the players now consider it as one of the uninteresting titles that Bethesda had to put out, like Fallout 76. Currently, Starfield has around 7500 recent reviews with 69 percent of them being negative, and its overall rating has lowered to “Mixed” on Steam. It is more likely that Bethesda will put more focus on Elder Scrolls VI than trying to get the Starfield back on the line.
