Split Fiction’s Josef Fares reveals his relationship with Electronic Arts and has “Already Started” his next game.
Split Fiction, developed and published by Hazelight, has sold over 2 million copies since its release. Critics are praising the game. Director Josef Fares has officially announced that Hazelight is already developing its next release, satisfying everyone’s insatiable curiosity about what comes next. Fares went on to explain that EA is a great and considerate partner for Hazelight.
On the Friends Per Second podcast (via Culture Crave), he stated that he is “so focused and excited on the next thing,” even though Split Fiction is the most well-received game they have ever developed. “We’ve already begun.” He further confirmed that approximately one month ago, construction commenced.
Even though Hazelight’s next project is still in its “quite early” stages of development, Fares did say that morale is strong in the studio and that employees are excited about what’s to come. He made it official that the squad believes they can perform “way better” with the next title.
“It’s not like we’re currently sitting around thinking, ‘Oh my goodness, how can we top [Split Fiction] or do better than this’?” This is just how we feel. Behold, our next move will stun you. Sure, it’s arrogant. “However, we are very confident in our abilities,” he stated.

Except for Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, which had a unique cooperative twist, all of Hazelight’s games have been cooperative. Though he didn’t rule anything out, Fares did say that co-op will remain an integral part of Hazelight’s formula. “The future can be completely unpredictable.
It’s quite possible that we also implement single-player modes. There would be a Hazelight spin on a single-player game, though. This isn’t your average game where you play solo.
The conversation also involved Fares discussing Hazelight’s partnership with Electronic Arts. Just to be clear, Hazelight isn’t pitching to EA. On the contrary, according to Fares, Hazelight notifies EA, “We’re going to do this. ” I’m done. When it comes to our future plans, they have absolutely nothing to say.
