Despite fan excitement, Sony confirms no announcements at the upcoming God of War celebration.
In response to the growing rumors that a God of War Remastered Collection is on the way, Sony has officially addressed the matter. While rumors of a remastered bundle comprising the original Greek Saga titles have been floating for months, a recent statement from Sony Santa Monica has seemingly shut down expectations—at least for now.
Sony Santa Monica released a statement ahead of the upcoming God of War 20th anniversary celebration, clarifying that there are “no planned announcements” for the event. The statement was made in response to the increasing excitement and speculation from fans, fueled by online discussions and industry insiders hinting at a possible collection.
The event, set to take place on March 2025 at Gallery Nucleus, will feature a panel reflecting on two decades of God of War, bringing together key figures from the franchise. Nevertheless, Sony has made it abundantly clear that fans should not anticipate any new game announcements upcoming.
Rumors of a God of War Remastered Collection began to spread after industry insiders such as Jeff Grubb and Tom Henderson hinted at its existence. The concept of a remastered bundle comprising God of War I-III and the PSP titles (Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta) sounded conceivable, especially given PlayStation’s recent practice of revitalizing legendary series.
Adding to the speculation, Sony Santa Monica had been engaging fans with Twitter polls pitting Greek and Norse mythology characters against each other, further fueling anticipation. Many people thought that this was a precursor to a significant announcement that would celebrate the franchise’s history.
In spite of Sony’s statement, some fans still have hope. The most important aspect of their announcement is that there are “no planned announcements for this event.” This leaves open the possibility that a reveal will take place at a later time, possibly through an article on the PlayStation Blog or the release of a trailer online.

Because Sony chose to announce the remaster of God of War III through social media rather than at a major event in the past, a similar strategy could be utilized for the announcement of a new collection. Furthermore, the free God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla DLC was initially denied despite being later revealed, which demonstrates that Sony is not a stranger to keeping secrets.
Despite the fact that the most recent statement from Sony Santa Monica may be disheartening for fans who have been hoping for an official remaster, it does not eliminate the possibility that the project will be created. If the remaster is real, Sony may choose to reveal it at a later date. The fans will have to wait until then to find out whether or not the God of War franchise will receive the nostalgic reboot that many people have been hoping for before then.
Although Sony Santa Monica has denied the remaster for the time being, they have not completely ruled out the possibility of it happening in the future. That small glimmer of hope is worth noting—because with the 20th anniversary approaching, it still feels like a perfect opportunity for Sony to surprise us.
