SEGA is one of the video game companies that love spreading their most beloved franchises via third-party creators. Sometimes even small contributors, such as modders and artists also get screentime on official SEGA social media accounts. Compared to the next biggest video game development and publisher in Japan, that being Nintendo of course, they are very chilled and love the enthusiasm that people put towards Sonic the Hedgehog and other video game series they have.
Since generosity is well-known with SEGA, we can expect to see far more extensive media from outside sources. These could be fan-made games, movies, comic books, and even tabletop games. Talking about tabletop games, Kess Entertainment just announced a new upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog tabletop game, named Sonic Roll. Not much information about how it is supposed to be played yet, but some tidbits about how it will look were shown on their Twitter post.
From the cards and maps, we can clearly see the table top will take place in Green Hill Zone, the famous first level of the Sonic the Hedgehog games. Players, who will take the role of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy will try to take down Dr. Eggman and his evil plans, just like how it is usually set in games and cartoons of Sonic the Hedgehog. The Chaos Emeralds also appear in the cards, making it possible for boss fights to be involved. One of the best eye-catching details about the tabletop game is the packaging, which comes with a design of a Mega Drive box and cartridge.
The tabletop is set to be released in January next year, however, tabletop enjoyers can opt to purchase a similar Mega Man Adventures version of it right now. Overall, it has been a great year for Sonic the Hedgehog with a brand new game that focuses on the 2D platformer aspect we all know and love that got released recently, and a planned mobile game for the Apple Arcade currently in the works too. Hope the blue hedgehog’s relevancy keeps going at this pace.
