It seems that the Snow White remake isn’t waking up anytime soon, as it is being killed by critics and fans alike.
The highly anticipated live-action film, Snow White, opened in theaters this past weekend with 43 million. With the budget being over 250 million, this is a low expectation at Disney. There are a lot of variables that are going into this, as many people disagreed with the casting of the leading roles.
Also, there seem to be a lot of issues with how the film used dwarfs. They are completely CGI and not real people at all. These controversies are definitely the leading disappointments with the film, but it seems general people just don’t like the movie. Its Rotten Tomatoes ranking is not good, and on IMDb, it is only at 2 stars out of 10.
In recent years, we have seen Disney do a bunch of live-action remakes of their classic animated films. We saw the Dumbo and Cinderella live-action remakes in the last 10 years. Both were not loved.
Overseas, Snow White had around the same gross that America did for the opening weekend at 44 million, which gave Snow White a global launch weekend of 87 million. Of course, Disney wanted at least 100 million or a lot more for its opening weekend.

Personally, for me, I’m surprised it didn’t make more money, even though it had its controversies, because there aren’t any massive films at the box office currently. I thought that just with it being a live-action remake of Snow White, people would go and see it regardless.
But it seems that people are pretty unhappy with all the controversy surrounding it. The film will probably be watched a lot on the Disney+ streaming app once it’s on there. Most people tend to wait for films to come out to watch on streaming anyway.
