This November, we will see two new versions of the PlayStation 5 with a new addon.
Sony has announced two different PlayStation versions that are different than the first released console. It is pretty much Sony’s own way with their consoles. First, they release a base model that is heavy and large in size, but as they keep developing the console, it gets smaller and smaller while its power stays on the same level as the base model. It has been like this since the PlayStation 1 days and the same happened to PlayStation 5 today with its slim and smaller version.
The announcement can get a bit confusing as Sony showcased two similar-looking PlayStation 5 versions, the difference is obviously the drive bay for one of them. One with the drive bay is the PlayStation Slim with its smaller and compact size. The other one is the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. It might look like a basic, smaller-size Digital Edition, however, it comes with a swappable cover, making it possible to change to a drive bay instead.
Both of the models will come with a 1TB storage and all of the disc drives have been changed to UHD Blu-ray versions, making it more powerful and crispier when it comes to graphics output. New drive bays for the Digital Edition will cost $79.99 and the horizontal stands will cost $29.99. For the base price, the new PlayStation 5 Slim will cost $499.99 and the PlayStation 5 Slim Digital Edition will set people back $499.99.
Sony has not unveiled when it is going to be released, but they briefly mentioned that they are aiming for a November release. They also mentioned these models will be available to purchase once the bigger base model of PlayStation 5 gets sold out completely. This raised the question of whether they are aiming at the Black Friday sale since people will likely go for the new consoles during the Black Friday sale, making these Slim versions more desirable.
