It did not take long for Skull Island: Rise of Kong to draw attention with its atrocious gameplay.
In 2023, there were a lot of games that were released and had a good reception due to their excellent quality on all fronts. It almost feels like the stones are getting back to their places since the pandemic halted everything to crawl and the gaming market is stronger than what it used to be a few years ago. Although game studios deliver a lot of quality titles, whether it is an AAA or an indie title, there are some hiccups that occur and we wonder how it was even allowed to be released in the first place.
One of them was notoriously the Gollum game that was published during the summer. It was not announced at all, its release was quite a surprise and for the Lord of the Ring fans, it was something to look forward to. Until it turned out to be a huge flop. The gameplay, writing, and everything related to the title were considered subpar and gained quite a lot of negative reviews. The developer of the Gollum game stopped creating video games after that. Unfortunately, our respect for them didn’t even grow back once we learned that they used ChatGPT for their apology letter.
But behold, now there is a new competitor for the worst game for 2023 in town by the name of Skull Island: Rise of Kong. This game is about, as you can guess by its name, King Kong and it follows the story after the original movie. The problem is that Skull Island: Rise of Kong is so broken and uncared for, that most of the story will fly over your head due to being confused about how someone could potentially give the green light and decide to publish it on Steam.
The game has a lot of negative reviews on Steam currently and most of the reviews complain about the price tag and how messy the game is. To their credit, people shared some clips of the gameplay, showcasing broken bosses and cutscenes that use still images while having 3D environments. The publisher, GameMill Entertainment, hasn’t come forward with an announcement about how bad Skull Island: Rise of Kong has received, but we can expect to see one if it keeps picking up heat. Hope they do not use ChatGPT like Daedalic Entertainment did to explain their reasoning.
