Masahiro Ito, The original artist for the Silent Hill franchise, refreshes a classic enemy design from the original game with some fresh new Silent Hill 2 concept art.
Fans of Silent Hill have been introduced to new concept art for the up-and-coming remake of the third-person horror survival Silent Hill 2. The art shows off a new, unique twist on one of the original enemy designs from the Silent Hill game series. The reimagined version was made by the original artist who first designed the iconic nightmarish monster.
After numerous rumors of the revival of the Silent Hill series, Konami revealed a wave of new projects based on the horror survival franchise in 2022. One of which was Silent Hill 2, a remake being made from the ground up by the Bloober Team. Some staff members, like Akira Yamaoka and Masahiro Ito, made comebacks from the first game of the Silent Hill series.
The new artwork from Masahiro Ito has been released to the public. It details a unique take on the iconic Bubble Head Nurse. The art was shared during the Game Invest forum, which highlighted some praise the Bloober Team had received. Next to it was the new art highlighting the Bubble Head Nurse’s new cosmetic changes from the original game.
The most notable change to the original is that in the new concept, the Bubble Head Nurse can be seen wearing heels with ankle straps, while the original design wore relatively flat shoes that were accurate to those of actual nurse shoes. Aside from the shoes, the nurse can also be seen wearing stockings with garters. While the original design lacks those key differences, the Bubble Head Nurse still embodies very similar traits to the original version of Silent Hill 2.
Numerous versions of the Bubble Head Nurses have been incorporated in subsequent games and art released by Masahiro Ito. The nurse’s intended purpose was to manifest a tormented conscience in Silent Hill. Ito himself has confirmed this art is official via a Twitter post, pointing out that the image was reversed due to the slide.
Despite having to wait some time, it seems that the fans of the iconic horror franchise will get to see Silent Hill in a fresh new light while staying close to the experience we all know and love. The Silent Hill 2 Remake is currently in development for PC and PS5 but has no announced release date yet.
