Sony Santa Monica’s latest IP has been making headlines lately.
The new IP from Sony Santa Monica has been all over the news recently. Santa Monica Studio is recognized as one of Sony’s top studios, if not their greatest studio of all time. While they are mostly known for the God of War games which obviously made the studio famous, they also made games like Journey, Flower, Fat Princess, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, The Unfinished Swan, and a few more. Now here’s the catch: these guys have been juggling a number of projects for a while now.
Word has been circulating since at least 2021 that God of War 2018’s director, Cory Barlog, is helming a new game. Before Corey Barlog started working on this new project, Eric Williams supervised God of War Ragnarök, in case you didn’t know. But we do know, according to an employee, that they are still quietly working on that new IP and have begun to developments on it.
Following a LinkedIn post, a developer wrote this – Santa Monica Studios presented the opportunity of coming back as a character supervisor looking after the entire character development pipeline on their new IP. So here I am, thrilled to be back, working again with the crew and pushing characters in video games together.
Even while Sony has been mum about it, this game is apparently still moving forward in the background. Based on what I know, it’s likely going to be Sony Santa Monica’s next surprise game, which will catch a lot of people off guard. Many are aware that they are developing a new IP, but I believe the majority of them are just hoping that God of War will be the only focus. Consequently, this statement will ultimately shock a lot of people. To top it all off, Sony pulled off a brilliant maneuver.
Considering the current state of game development, I do not anticipate a new God of War installment until the PlayStation 6. Nonetheless, given the approval of the second team, it’s quite probable that this new intellectual property will be released for the PlayStation 5 in this generation.
