Riot Games’ upcoming fighter, 2XKO, still has hype behind it but fighting games might not have space for another contender.
Being a long time coming, Riot Games’ League of Legends fighting game 2XKO finally has a release window and public beta plans. Having been formally known as Project L, the title will be bringing together League of Legends champions in 2v2 fighter made by the team that made the now free experimental fighting game Rising Thunder, including several prominent fighting game figures 2XKO’s staff include the Cannon brothers who created GGPO Netcode and the EVO tournament series, along with people like the competitive Marvel vs. Capcom player “Clockw0rk.”
Project L’s name change to 2XKO had a chilling reception; however, many are still happy to spot a light at the end of the tunnel. Both influencers, League players, and pro-fighting gamers, along with some lucky tournament goers have already given the game a try, and the impressions that were received by the lucky few were quite positive.
Having sported a novel team system which allows separate players to have control of every character along with being supported by Rising Thunder’s easy input, there won’t be anything quite like Riot Games upcoming 2XKO on the market. However, the market of the genre has never been fuller and the League of Legends fighter has quite a lot to prove if the title wants to stand out amongst others.
While having gone through a sort of renaissance lately, fighting games have a new lineup of upcoming titles seemingly moving in to replace the older generations. Since June 2023, the launched fighting titles have included games such as Mortal Kombat 1, Nickelodeon All-star Brawl 2, Street Fighter 6, Under Night In-Birth 2 Sys:Celes, and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising with all these games still being actively supported and plenty of other older game titles to this day getting updates alongside them.
With all this from Riot Games and more, fans have much to look forward to with a lot of other upcoming fighting games as well and there is much to expect in the fighting genre, whether it be the new upcoming game or the updated older ones, fans will have quite the selection of games coming to enjoy.
