Wargaming Sydney is a support studio behind World of Tanks and World of Warships and under Riot Games will be rebranded Riot Sydney.
The game industry keeps on going, with another acquirement. While this is not as earth shaking as some of the other purchases that have came out this year, the fact that Riot Games have in fact acquired Wargaming Sydney (Now Riot Sydney) for the purpose of assisting with live service titles shows where Riot Games’ focus is.
The news came officially from Riot Games with Marc Merrill, co-founder and president of Riot Games stating that “We are really excited to bring these talented developers and teams to Riot” he went on to further state that “The Rioters that have had the opportunity to work with members of the Sydney team are confident not only in the tech they’ve built over the years but, more importantly, in the people who’ve built it”.
Not only this, but Merrill also conferred that ‘Naz’ (Nazesh Hirani, Head of Development at Riot Sydney, previously Wargaming Sydney) and the developers at the studio “have a long history of working in ways that will complement Riot’s ability to deliver value to our players” and that they “really look forward to collaborating with them.”
In this official statement, Riot have confirmed that this new acquisition will be focused on both Valorant and League of Legends the two most famous titles from Riot, as well as working on the tech teams. The staff at the studio will be absorbed into Riot whilst the publishing side of things will be retained by Wargaming.
Lastly, according to this post it seems that Riot is expanding it’s approach to “global development” and is hoping to grow “the game industry in Australia”. This is all under Riot’s Head of Development Studios Molly Mason-Boule, an industry veteran.
