New rumors show light on a Resident Evil 1 Remake
Resident Evil is a well-known survival horror franchise that was first released in 1996. Many fans are aware that the series’ 30th anniversary is coming up and believe that Resident Evil 1 could be remade again for 2026.
After the remake of Resident Evil 4 in 2023, some fans have been looking forward to what is next for the series. Some fans have speculated that Resident Evil 9 is in development, with some leaks about the game’s settings and gameplay. While there are no confirmations about new entries, Capcom could well be getting ready for ninth game as well as a remake of the first game.
The game has already been remade back in 2002 and was originally released as an exclusive for the Nintendo GameCube. The game was built from the ground up, and had updated controls and was typically scary at the time, which earned its critical acclaim. A HD version of the same remake has since been released on various platforms for everyone to enjoy, ensuring that it is the most up to date version available to play. However, with the upcoming anniversary, Capcom could be revisiting the game again.
An insider known as Daniel Richman (DanielRPK) made a post on his Patreon claiming that Resident Evil 1 would be getting the same treatment that Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 received. Capcom has teased fans about a special announcement regarding the franchise’s 30th anniversary. If we take into account that the original game was released in 1996 and 2026 marks the anniversary, a remake would be fitting for the occasion.
Some fans are split on the idea of Resident Evil 1 receiving another remake, as they believe it doesn’t need one. Alongside this, fans are suggesting that RE: Code Veronica is well overdue for a remake instead.
There are currently no confirmations by Capcom for RE1 remake or RE9. Therefor, fans should take these rumors and leaks with a grain of salt until proven otherwise.
