After an excruciating 14 years, we might finally get a Red Dead Redemption PC port.
Fourteen years after the initial release of Red Dead Redemption on PS3 and Xbox 360, we finally have a sign that the game is being ported to PC, just when I thought the game would be lost to the old consoles. The PS4 and Nintendo Switch ports of the game were indeed an interesting move by Rockstar, but I’m just glad John Marston’s journey of revenge can finally be experienced by a larger audience.
The leak comes from the PSN store page of the game in its description, mentioning that Red Dead Redemption was on PC for the first time. The text was promptly fixed but not quick enough for gamers not to notice. This aligns with the mention of the original game in Rockstar Games’ launcher some months ago. It is only a matter of time until the original game is announced and released to the public.
I feel a little bit silly, now, after buying a PS3 just to play the original Red Dead Redemption soon after concluding the touching story of Arthur Morgan, if you have played Red Dead Redemption 2, you would know exactly why I might be so eager to do such a thing. I did not expect the PS4/Switch port to be announced soon after my hasty purchase. Honestly, I still think the purchase was worth it.
Knowing Rockstar Games, the game will most likely be released at full price, with few visual changes from the original consoles, except a resolution bump and the opportunity to play it at 60fps. I don’t know whether it is a blessing or a curse that the original visuals of the game are preserved. Part of me wishes Red Dead Redemption received the same treatment its sequel got, but perhaps that is too far-fetched. Maybe the community will be able to fulfill my wishes with mods. All shall be known when the PC port is finally released.
