Red Dead Redemption Fans Band Together to Save The Game They Love
Since its first announcement trailer five years ago, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been one of the most anticipated games of all time. The aftermath of its release saw fans and pundits alike hail the game as a technical marvel and undisputedly one of the greatest games ever made.
Rockstar’s other mega-project, GTA V, spawned an online community that lives and breathes to this day, almost a decade after the game’s first release. Recently, Grand Theft Auto Online received The Contract, a brand new update starring Dr. Dre and Anderson Paak. It features a new song made by the two artists mentioned previously, Snoop Dogg.
This was in conjunction with the fabled return of Franklin Clinton, one of the major protagonists from Grand Theft Auto V. He was sporting his greying beard in a sophisticated suit and talking about the good old days.
What did Red Dead Redemption 2 get, you may be asking?
A bonus week.
This immediately provides the context for the huge uproar that occurred afterward. #SaveRedDeadOnline sprouted up very soon and recently has garnered way more attention. Gamers of all kinds are spreading the message of how Rockstar has ‘abandoned’ Red Dead Redemption 2’s online mode; one Twitter user wrote:
This uproar is a long time coming for fans of Red Dead’s online mode. For months and months, members of the community have been reaching out to Rockstar, begging them to create new content for the beloved game, but so far, to no avail. The last true content update for Red Dead Online came in late June of last year, and even then, the content could not compare to what GTA Online gets so consistently.
With rumours about GTA VI hovering over the horizon, it is unlikely that the fans will succeed in their mission. However, one can hope that the fans’ movement bears fruit and that fans can enjoy the content of a game that they love so dearly.
