The emulation of PS3 games on PS5 could become a reality in the future.
There has been a report that native emulation of PS3 games on PS5 could become a reality in the future, as the possibility is reportedly being researched and prototyped. Developer Implicit Conversions, the studio handling the PlayStation Classics ports on PlayStation 5, lists on its official website a roadmap that it is researching and prototyping the possibility of a PS3 emulator package for Seraph, the engine that powers the other PS Classic ports.
However, the dreaming about tag indicates that genuine PS3 emulation may be years away. So, yeah, I felt this was worth bringing up because many PlayStation gamers are still hoping to see native PS3 titles running on the PlayStation 5.
We don’t think it will happen anytime soon. We assume that Sony is exploring and considering this because they do not believe they will be able to maintain those PS3 server blades running indefinitely.
Surely, they won’t be able to do that. It would just be easier if they could figure out a way to run these games natively on current-gen hardware. If they ever do, this will come to fruition sometime during the PlayStation 6 generation.
