PS Portal is now standalone, meaning you don’t need a PS5 to use it, thanks to Cloud Streaming (Beta).
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is now experimenting with cloud streaming on the devices, just seventeen months after releasing the PlayStation Portal, their first specialized remote-play device. With the addition of Cloud Streaming (Beta), the PS Portal has received a much-appreciated boost. With that, Sony has released the PS Portal System software Update Version 4.0.0.
This update, Version 4.0.0, for your PlayStation Portal’s System Software, includes this capability. Previously, you needed to own a PlayStation 5 to play games via remote play. The most recent patch for PlayStation Portal allows users to avoid using a PlayStation 5 by streaming games directly from Sony’s servers.
Updates to PS Portal’s system software include what SIE calls “refinements in the audio experience,” such as a slider for the speaker’s output that lowers the volume when the audio level is set to minimum and a new option in the Settings menu to tweak your PlayStation Link device’s parameters.
Upgrades from PS Portal System software Update Version 4.0.0 include the following:
- The speaker’s volume has been adjusted.
- The stability and performance of the system software has been enhanced.
- The content and usability of several screens have been enhanced.
- Your PS Link devices now have the option to manage their settings through the PS Portal.
- You can connect your PS Link device to your PS Portal, then choose Settings > PS Link Device from the quick menu.
- Cloud Streaming (Beta) is now live. PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers can access the Game Catalogue to play a selection of PS5 console titles through streaming.
