The troubled development of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is no secret.
A Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake was announced over three years ago, and the game has been continuously pushed back due to development issues. Back in May 2022, it was announced that the game would be moving from Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai to Montreal, alongside the update from Ubisoft claiming it has reached an ‘important milestone’. However, it is unclear as to what this milestone exactly is.
The progress of the remake has been discarded and has been restarted completely from scratch. While Ubisoft states that the new team will be building upon the work that was already done, there are claims that the Prince of Persia remake has re-entered its concept phase.
There are rumors that the remake is taking a more realistic approach, as the original style was criticized for its cartoonish looks. As well as the graphics, the combat and parkour are also rumored to be getting an overhaul. As Montreal has restarted development, the script has supposedly been rewritten.
One of the biggest changes is the voice actor of the main character, Prince. The Prince of Persia remake was set to have Yuri Lowenthal return; however, he has reportedly been dropped from the role. It is currently unknown who will take his place.
While Ubisoft mentioned the remake has reached an ‘important milestone’, they also claimed we could expect an update in the future. However, there was no indication for when exactly. We may see an update about the revamped version, but there is still no hints about when we can expect such updates.
Meanwhile, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is set to receive story DLC across 2024, as well as some new free game modes.
