While the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal might happen soon, the console is likely only to come out in another year.
An industry insider has revealed that Nintendo is planning to unveil the Switch 2 in June. This source also contributed to speculations about the timing of the next Nintendo Direct focused on first-party games. Since September 2023, a number of reports have emerged alleging that the next Nintendo console will hit the market sometime in 2024.
The first to claim the contrary surfaced online in mid-February when a Brazilian journalist named Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe reported that the Switch 2 had been internally delayed until next year, 2025. Taking time to confirm this, several news outlets independently verified that the scoop in the hours that followed stated that Nintendo started briefing publishers about the postponement.
Although the console’s release had ostensibly been made to suffer due to its notable delay, Nintendo’s announcement plans for the Switch 2 may not have pushed back nearly as much as the results of that move. According to Lippe, he now believes that the Japanese gaming Giant is currently planning to reveal its next console in June 2024; before the insider broke the news of the Switch 2 delay, many watchers of the industry had believed that the new console was looking at a March announcement instead.
Also adding to the speculation, Lippe’s post added when the next big Nintendo Direct would be taking place, which gained momentum following the recent confirmation that the February one will be a Partner Showcase. The insider believes that a general-purpose broadcast focused on the first part of the company’s games is happening in April.
Leppe went on to say that he is unsure whether or not the Spring livestream is meant to be a fully-fledged Nintendo Direct. What he’s more certain about is that the company is also planning another Indie World showcase prior to the event, most likely taking place in March.
