A community does what a community does best and adds new flavor to Portal 2 in a different way.
Modding communities are the best when they want to add more story behind an unfinished concept or expand the lore of a beloved franchise. Developers set the universe in, provide the story, and let players have their own adventure. But sometimes people want another step further and create their own lore-friendly mods to fulfill the needs of continuation of a well-established franchise.
Companies like Bethesda, Valve- and sometimes even Rockstar despite the love-and-hate relationship with mod creators– love the care people put into creating immersive mods that expand further on what the game is capable of providing. In a recent announcement, we heard of Team FOLON, who has been working on a Fallout 4 mod called Fallout London, which aims to bring the British atmosphere to the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout. It has been in the works for three years and now people are ecstatic about its arrival in a few months.
While Team FOLON is working on their mod, another small group of developers by the name of Second Face Software has come up with a brand new story expansion for Portal 2 by the name of Portal: Revolution.
Set between the first and second game, Portal: Revolution aims to create a story where Valve decided to show what happened after the end of Portal. The mod has full voice acting with a new Wheatley-like companion called Stirling and a bunch of new tests, waiting to be solved by players. The developers have gotten so far as to add tests that only require you to use blue portals just like in the first game, which is a nice throwback for veteran players.
With new pieces of music, a unique laser cube addition, the post-destruction setting of Aperture Science, and hours upon hours of new content, Portal: Revolution already got a lot of positive reviews on Steam and is considered “Portal 3” by many people, thanks to its quality and authenticity. The mod is currently free to try out if you happen to have Portal 2 in your Steam Library.
