Sony showed off what will be coming up in the future of PlayStation, with hardware, games and VR exclusives.
With the death of E3 this year the console showcases have been where studios and developers alike have been showing off the games they have to offer. Sony held their event on May 24th and live streamed the whole event on YouTube and Twitch. The event had a lot to announce with 34 game trailers being shown, more than half of which having release windows of when the games would come out.
Alan Wake 2 is set to come out on October 17th of this year. More information about Bungi’s Marathon was finally revealed in the trailer, that showed a little of the first-person shooter. Immortals of Aveum was a particular highlight with an amazing, lengthy trailer. Some VR2 games were also shown in the trailer section, including Arizona Sunshine 2, a DLC for Beat Saber, a VR2 port for Resident Evil 4 Remake and much, much more.
Beyond this, the PlayStation Showcase also featured Jim Ryan, the Sony Interactive CEO and President, who had announcements about hardware that will be released in the coming months. The first of these was a remote gaming device known internally at Sony as Project Q. This will reportedly allow gamers to play any PlayStation game without a network connection.
The second of the new hardware that will be available is the PlayStation earbuds. These will be Bluetooth earphones that can connect to a PlayStation console or a PC, as well as being able to link to a phone.
Ryan ended the showcase by stating there would be one last trailer. As many anticipated, it was a gameplay trailer for Spiderman 2 and revealed a great deal about what is to come in the game.
The showcase was a tone of fun and definitely a way for Sony to reveal all the plans they have for the future of PlayStation games, as well as some of the tech they will be releasing soon.
