Many Overwatch 2 Players Are complaining about Mauga, the game’s most recent tank and are quitting the game because of him.
As much as there was huge fanfare over Mauga, the most recent addition to Overwatch 2’s roster, there now seems to be dismay as players are complaining about how overpowered the new tank is, with many announcing that they will be quitting the game. With Mauga being the most recent addition to the game, it is to be expected that he will be a little unbalanced as the developers slowly adjust and balance his abilities. It should be noted that so far, Mauga Is creating more controversy than any other previously released hero for Overwatch 2.
Mauga was added to Overwatch 2 on 5 December 2023, and was a part of the release of season 8. The Samoan Mountain is the newest tank hero and has a kit full of powerful abilities that allow him to thrive on the battlefield, pumping enemies full of bullets, while also healing both himself and his allies. He also features the Ultimate ability, Cage Fight, which traps both him and his target in a barrier while also giving this behemoth of a man unlimited ammo. So, it’s safe to say that Mauga absolutely decimates wherever he goes. The tank is built to work with a team that plays close to him as he is very up close and personal in combat.
However, all this insane damage output as well as healing has caused plenty of outcry from players, who have complained that the hero is severely lacking in proper balance. Mauga is a massive wall of muscle that just deflects damage, much like other tanks but he also deals massive damage as well as healing to both himself and allies, gets extra health and can end up being unstoppable if his abilities are used just right. Due to his sheer damage, most teams have to build around Mauga if they don’t want to lose the game. Many players have stated that they will be quitting the game because of the lack of balance for Mauga and due to the fact that many of their favorite heroes are no longer viable.
Overwatch 2 is indeed a hub of constant complaints but the Samoan seems to be taking the spotlight as the source of most of them. Mauga is still a new addition to the game, so he will most likely be receiving a balancing patch soon, and based on complaints, it will be one that can either make or break the hero.
