PETA, the Ethical Treatment of Animals organization issued a statement about the supposed animal cruelty in Palworld.
Palworld is an open-world animal collection adventure game, that has taken the gaming communities by storm, with its similar feel to games such as Pokémon, Digimon, and other monster-collecting adventure games. However, despite the game’s rising popularity, there have been a few controversies on the rise between the new game and Pokémon.
Aside from the current issues, the new adventure game has also caught the eyes of the animal ethics organization, PETA, due to its apparent concerns about animal cruelty to the animals in Palworld. Prior to its release, the game quickly took off with the concept of monsters with equipable weapons, and with that not holding back with the pixelated violence against the pals that populate the game.
Although the cutscenes of Pals being hunted have upset some players, making them feel bad for killing the pals. However, the main mechanic of the game, base building and tool crafting, is reliant on the loot that drops from the Pals after being hunted or captured with Pal Spheres or by sticking them in a ranch, which will drop lots as they roam.
However, players can also simply obtain loot by taking down the pal and ending its digital existence, which in the long run would be faster and cheaper to obtain loot. Catching the eyes of PETA, the Ethical Treatment of Animal organization, stepped in and hinted at making a guide for “Palworld fans who have no interests in eating Pals… it’s ‘Veganuary’ after all.”
This however is not the first time that PETA has stepped in to help gamers as they have made a vegan guide for the game Animal Crossing: New Horizons players when that game was released in March 2020. In the end, with Palworld’s Pals being used for labor, loot, farming, and combat, PETA steps in for players who are against the killing of Pals and offers them a more vegan-friendly option to survive.
