The President of Nintendo confirms there are no plans for Nintendo Switch price cuts and the Switch successor release date.
Shuntaro Furukawa, the President of Nintendo, made a statement recently in a Q&A regarding price cut plans for the Nintendo Switch. He stated that there were no plans to reduce the price of the console, during a Financial Results Q&A. Alongside the lack of price cut plans, Furukawa was asked about the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom pricing, being that it is $70, the highest-priced game in their game listing, unlike its predecessor, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Furukawa’s response to the question of the latest entry to the Zelda franchise pricing – “…this does not indicate a general increase in the price of our software”, he further added – “…the appropriate price of a product on a case-by-case basis.” along with the financial results Q&A session pricing questions, Furukawa was asked about the Nintendo Switch successor’s possible release announcement and if the two years between announcement and release were considered a success in regards to hardware marketing.
Furukawa stated that Nintendo would “let people know that Nintendo would be continuing to focus on the dedicated video game platform business” which means it is likely that the company is indeed working on the Switch’s successor. Besides the making of the Nintendo Switch successor, the company also reported in a statement that “Sustaining the Switch’s sales momentum will be difficult in its seventh year,” and further stated “Our goal of selling 15 million unit this fiscal year is a bit of stretch. But we will do our best to bolster demand going into the holiday season so that we can achieve the goal.”
Although plans for the Nintendo Switch Successor have been hinted at and statements made of dropping market for both games and consoles at the Financial Results Q&A, hopefully, the release of the Nintendo Switch Successor will bolster the company’s market, leading Nintendo and its Loyal fans of the console into a brighter path and maybe a whole new adventure with Nintendo.
