The console had a fair share of problems, particularly Joy-Con drift, and since shortly after launch the Switch has been afflicted with this problem.
This problem causes the thumbstick of the switch to move, shifting players without pressurizing. The fall from Joy-Con contributed to a class action lawsuit, in which Nintendo is still involved. However, Mr Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, apologized for this issue: “Regarding the Joy-Con, we apologize to any trouble caused to our customers”.
Furukawa said, but does not describe clear steps taken because of the complexity of the lawsuit, that Nintendo will continue to develop its products. Nintendo had previously requested to be fired for a drift proceeding by Joy-Con, but the request declined. It appears to be Nintendo’s first apology for the issue, while Joy-Con’s complaints have been acknowledged in the past. The problem was very popular among Switch owners, with Joy-Con often drifting even the newer Switch Lite.
Of course, this has frustrated fans, and rightly so, but it’s good that Nintendo recognizes the problem and even better excuses for it. Lawsuits can take months, even even years, until Nintendo discusses some steps in the battle to fix the issue.
However, Nintendo’s case requires negotiation, which can be a quicker procedure, to be resolved sooner than anyone would think. It is not evident which would be the end product, but for the customers it is a positive sign that Nintendo understands and reasons for the matter.
