SNK Interactive confirmed that they are working on their new Metal Slug smartphone game and aim to release it this year for consoles. The game was announced a while back, but it’s clear that they are targeting release this year, and it’s already 80% complete. It will be a run-and-gun sidescrolling shooter like previous games in the series, reported by Siliconera.
Metal Slug Attack is more akin to a tower defense game, and Metal Slug will be very different from this. Metal Slug will gun the gameplay of the series with a card system and mix the usual 2D scroll run. Maybe it’s some kind of system where cards give you various opportunities, though it’s not clear how it works. Characters aren’t out of the equation, and cards will become weapons in this game.
On June 8, SNK announced that it was working on two Metal Slug Games. The first one will launch in 2020, but they didn’t specify which console this is. Players might get these consoles on PS5 and Xbos One X. It’s not clear if it will be 2D like past games or if players will get 3D characters and environments with the usual 2D scroll. SNK announced back in April 2019 that they would return with a Neo Geo 3 and even hardware with a Neo Geo 2.
SNK plans to continue expanding and enhancing the current IP value and developing more than one game annually. The new Metal Slug game is currently in development.
