Fans can finally rejoice as a Skate title is being developed for the PC after all these years.
During the PS3/Xbox 360 era, two skateboarding franchises ruled the main genre of skating games. Tony Hawk’s games and Skate. Tony Hawk’s titles were more lenient towards arcade style, giving players freedom to execute unreal combos and such. Skate on the other hand was rather brutal with its realism and ragdoll physics. While EA’s take on urban sports games was mostly determined to give the best feeling of skating to people, Tony Hawk’s games were still pretty much dominant.
However, this did not mean Skate was unpopular. In fact, you can still boot up the latest title, Skate 3, on both PS3 and Xbox 360 and still find players in online lobbies. Despite being two generations old, the franchise still holds up thanks to its devoted player base. And undoubtedly so, when a new entry was horizon, the whole Skate 4 memes from back in the day became a reality rather than just being posted relentlessly.
The developers behind the Skate franchise, EA Black Box, are currently working on a new title and posting regular updates on their Twitter account to let players know what to expect. Last year, they also had an open pre-alpha test for everyone to showcase how their project is coming along and how to make it better by asking for feedback from the players. The current status of the upcoming game is fine as it is, but the recent announcement on the Twitter account made players even happier.
As we all know, all of the Skate games are only available for PS3 and Xbox 360. The only way to play these games is either grabbing a console- which should be cheap nowadays- or setting up an emulator. However, the new game will be also available on the PC, according to the developers, which will cut down the hassle of console exclusivity issues right away.
The upcoming Black Box title currently has no release date set yet, however, new playtests are expected to happen for console players in 2024. Maybe PC players can also have a taste now that it’s confirmed for the PC platform as well, who knows?
