The latest video for Gangs of Sherwood reveals the thought behind this unique adaptation of a popular legend.
Developers of Outcast and Outcast: Second Contract, Appeal Studios, alongside Publishers Nacon, have announced a new video for Gangs of Sherwood, an action adventure game that reimagines the legend of Robin Hood. Although the gameplay trailer was released in March, the latest Gangs of Sherwood video about the game was released on the 17th of May, 2023.
In the video that delves into the lore behind Gangs Of Sherwood, Game Director Andrea Di Stefano, and Art Director Michela Defroyennes talk about how they reimagined the legend of Robin Hood.
“When we started out on Gangs Of Sherwood we knew that we wanted to create a fast action game and the Robin Hood world and legend were a natural fit for the kind of game we wanted to make. When we started researching the project, we didn’t limit the scope of our research to you know the most famous contemporary movies and books. We really went back to the original tales which are extremely old and in them we found interesting story situations, Incredible characters that we could actually use into our story, into our own take of the Robin Hood legend.” Andrea Di Stefano said.
Within Gangs Of Sherwood, you can play as the four most famous heroes out of the legend: Friar Tuck, Little John, Maid Marian, and naturally, Robin Hood, including less-known characters like Alan-a-Dale, who was also part of the development team’s goal to highlight the legend’s rich lore. It has also focused a lot of attention on the antagonists like Guy of Gisbourne, who is often seen as an assassin accused of killing Robin Hood, and the Prioress of Kirklees.
Gangs of Sherwood presents a unique take on Robin Hood’s legend. Within this war story, a resistance is led by the heroes against the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. In the game’s medieval world, technological advancement plays a major role, adding a science-fantasy element to both the lore and appearance of the game.
Throughout the adventure, players will be able to visit some very familiar and highly iconic places. “For example, we start in the village of Locksley, which is under siege, and there will be other iconic places, of course, such as Sherwood Forest and the city of Nottingham. We also wanted to highlight the bleak aspect of the various regions to show how the world is war-torn and how pollution from technology has impacted the environment.” Michael Defroyennes explains.
Gangs Of Sherwood does not have a release date, but when it does release, it will release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.
