Thanks to a new job listing, we may see two multiplayer games from Naughty Dog.
A job listing recently revealed that Naughty Dog is looking for an Associate Multiplayer Quality Assurance Tester/Development Support. While this could be for one of their pre-existing IPs, the listing mentions working on “multiplayer titles,” which could mean working on more than the Last of Us multiplayer game, which is currently in the works.
Naughty Dog has been hinting at a possible Last of Us multiplayer game ever since it was revealed that a multiplayer mode had to be cut from for Last of Us 2. The multiplayer mode was cut, due to how ambitious the game had become there wouldn’t be enough resources left to do the multiplayer justice.
Going into more detail on the listing for a QA tester, the listing states that the person would be hired if they could identify, log, and maintain issues with gameplay, have working experience and knowledge of both the PS4 and PS5 ecosystems, as well as do bug testing where it is applicable. They must also pay attention to detail for Naughty Dog’s “first standalone multiplayer project,” as well as “quality assurance/development support with a focus on our multiplayer titles”.
While this could be an error, it doesn’t seem that Naughty Dog has plans for at least more than one multiplayer title in the future. While not much is known about the Last of Us multiplayer game currently, it’s safe to say that it and possibly the other multiplayer games are coming much later in the future.
This may be part of Sony’s plan to release at least 10 live-service titles by 2026. However, Sony has assured fans that, like many other companies, it will still focus on story-driven games, such as the rumored Uncharted 5.
