Every release of Mortal Kombat 1 besides the Nintendo Switch version seems to be fine so far.
Back at the beginning of summer, we had Street Fighter 6 as a contemporary fighting game of 2023. Capcom being Capcom, they delivered a proper release with some additional content through the life of Street Fighter 6 too. Now, as expected, Mortal Kombat 1 had to put a competitive move on this fighting game business and deliver a fully-packed game with the intention of adding content catered to their player base. Although they seem to deliver that to their players on every platform, except Nintendo Switch.
Mortal Kombat 1 on Nintendo Switch had a very rough start with lowered graphics and lots of bugs that people didn’t expect to see in the game. Ed Boon, the lead of Mortal Kombat 1, had stated they have been working on fixing these issues for the Nintendo Switch port of the game, so they are pretty much aware of the fact that something went completely wrong. What followed this incident is odd too because it shows incompetency in both Nintendo and NetherRealm management.
Mortal Kombat 1 was released to Premium Edition owners back on the 14th of September, and for Standard Edition owners on the 19th. It is considered that the 19th is the proper release date, and respective launch trailers were added to YouTube channels. Every single trailer seems to be fine except Nintendo Switch’s because it happens to showcase a Steam achievement popup.
The popup reads “Achievement 38” and “Description 38”, meaning the video was completely from a development build of the Mortal Kombat 1 instead of an actual Switch recording. All this means is there were a few problems between the two sides. NetherRealm for sending an early-build video from the PC platform and Nintendo for not going through the video properly and denying the upload to the channel.
So far the video has been privatized by Nintendo and it is uncertain what is going to happen to the actual state of the game. As we said earlier, the current build of Mortal Kombat 1 on Switch is a mess and NetherRealm has to act upon it quickly if they want to leave a good impression.
