The Rotten Tomatoes score for Madame Web has been released, creating a disastrous trend for Sony’s Spider-Man universe Movies.
Madame Web is the fourth installment in Sony’s universe after Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Morbius. At the same time, the attempt to take the multiversal franchise in a new direction via the multiversal Spider-Man hero such as Madame Web. With multiple other Marvel movies releasing in 2024, Sony Pictures, the studio’s hopes of Madame Web would have been to take the new year on a positive note for the universe centered on the iconic Spider-Man characters. Unfortunately, even with opinions on Madame Web already being low, the movies lowly critical approval rating of 22% on review aggregator website, Rotten Tomatoes, has proven to just further the disappointment in the movie.
Rather than overcome the issues that have plagued Sony’s other projects in regard to the franchise, the movie instead compounded these issues, furthering a trend of disappointing live-action projects. While the score itself is only 22% and based off of 41 reviews, the score could still be brought up, if more critics release their opinions on the movie. Despite the possibility of the score going up, it is unlikely Madame Web will be continued among the best superhero movies of the year based on its initial score.
Despite the movie’s promising cast of characters and actors, the movie only serves to carry the poor opinion on Sony Studio’s Spiderman Universe. Although, both Venom movies were often considered a little under-crafted and a fun theater-going experience.
The overall reaction to Morbius was not all too well met, receiving an incredibly poor score of 15%, lacking the oddly yet awesomely goofy fun of the symbiotic duo, Venom and Tom Hardy, or otherwise known as Eddie Brock, Morbius unfortunately missed the mark on release.
Despite this trend of disaster for Sony, the studio has two more attempts to change the franchise’s fortune in 2024 with the untitled third installment to the Venom franchise which is set to release in November 2024 while Kraven the Hunter is set for August 2024. Sony has the opportunity to change it around, and end the trend of low scores and while bringing back up the marvel’s Spider-man universe in reflection with Venom’s third title
